This Star 1 performing arts class in Orpington is open to children aged 7–9 from any school or location.
Each week students enjoy three hours of professional training in drama, dance and singing, helping them build confidence, creativity and performance skills in a fun and supportive environment.

Star 1 (Age 7–9) – Newstead Wood School, Orpington
Saturdays 2:30pm – 5:30pm
Our Star 1 classes for ages 7–9 introduce children to the exciting world of musical theatre and performing arts.
During each session students rotate through specialist workshops in:
✨ Drama – acting exercises, improvisation and character work
✨ Dance – musical theatre choreography and movement training
✨ Singing – vocal technique, ensemble singing and performance skills
All classes are taught by professional performing arts coaches, many of whom trained at leading drama schools and have experience performing on stage and screen.
Every child is supported to develop at their own pace.
Through creative activities and performance training students:
• grow in confidence and self-expression
• improve coordination, rhythm and vocal ability
• develop teamwork and communication skills
• learn how to perform in front of an audience
Classes are kept small so every child receives individual encouragement and feedback.
Students in our Stars 1, 2 and 3 programme regularly take part in exciting performance opportunities including:
✨ end-of-term showcase performances
✨ full musical theatre productions in professional theatre venues
These projects allow students to apply the skills they develop in class and experience the excitement of performing on stage.

Whether your child is new to performing arts or already loves the stage, they will quickly feel at home in our welcoming classes.
Our friendly teachers and supportive classmates help every student feel included, encouraged and proud of their progress.
Many children stay with Spotlights for years as they progress through Stars 1, Stars 2 and Stars 3 classes.

If an afternoon class isn’t convenient, we also run a Star 1 class at Newstead Wood School on Saturday mornings (10:30am – 1:30pm).

Students who begin in Star 1 (ages 7–9) often continue their performing arts journey with Spotlights as they grow.
After Star 1, many students progress into:
• Star 2 classes (ages 10–12)
• Star 3 classes (ages 13–18)
Together these classes form our Stars 1–3 performing arts programme, where students develop their skills in drama, dance and singing while taking part in exciting performances.
