Our performing arts classes for Years 3–6 are designed for children who love drama, singing and performance.
These after-school classes give children the opportunity to develop acting skills, stage confidence and performance technique in a fun and supportive environment.
Many children first experience Spotlights through these school clubs before progressing to our weekend performing arts academy and musical theatre productions.
In our Years 3–6 performing arts classes, students explore a wide range of theatre skills including:
• Acting and character development
• Voice and vocal performance
• Movement and stage presence
• Script work and storytelling
• Ensemble performance
• Confidence and teamwork
Classes are taught by professional performing arts teachers who specialise in working with children and helping them develop their creativity and confidence.
Many of our Years 3–6 students have the opportunity to take LAMDA (London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art) examinations as part of their class work.
LAMDA exams help children develop:
• communication skills
• performance technique
• confidence speaking in front of others
Students prepare solo acting pieces and performance work during their classes and can enter the exams to receive an internationally recognised qualification.
LAMDA exams are optional, but most students enjoy working towards them.
Performance is an important part of the Spotlights experience.
During the year, students may take part in:
• end-of-term showcases for family and friends
• performance projects in class
• musical theatre productions alongside our weekend academy students
These opportunities help children experience the excitement of performing on stage while developing teamwork and confidence.

These classes are available only for pupils who attend those schools.
Children who do not attend one of these schools can still join our weekend performing arts classes (Stars 1,2 & 3), which are open to all children aged 7–18.

Age-Appropriate Learning

LAMDA Exam Opportunities
Students may prepare solo acting pieces and performance work in class and can choose to enter LAMDA examinations, gaining a recognised qualification while building confidence and presentation skills.
Confidence and Communication Skills
Through acting, storytelling and performance work, children develop valuable skills that support them both on stage and in everyday life.
In our drama sessions, children develop acting skills through improvisation, storytelling and script work.
Students learn how to work together as an ensemble, create characters and build confidence performing in front of others. Throughout the year they explore a variety of acting techniques and performance exercises, helping them develop creativity, imagination and communication skills.
Many students also work on LAMDA acting pieces, giving them the opportunity to develop performance technique and confidence presenting material to an audience.
Our dance and movement sessions help children develop coordination, rhythm and physical confidence.
Students learn choreography inspired by musical theatre and performance projects, working together to create energetic and engaging routines.
Movement work helps children develop stage presence, teamwork and confidence performing as part of a group.
Children develop confidence using their voice through fun vocal exercises, warm-ups and musical theatre songs.
Students learn how to project their voice, sing with expression and perform as part of an ensemble. Singing sessions often support class performance projects and help children develop musicality and stage confidence.

These classes run as after-school clubs within selected primary schools, allowing children to learn and perform alongside friends from their school in a fun and supportive environment.
