Most students in this class work towards LAMDA (London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art) examinations as part of their class work.
LAMDA exams help children develop:
• communication skills
• acting technique
• public speaking confidence
• performance skills
Students prepare solo acting pieces during their classes and can enter the exam to receive an internationally recognised qualification.
LAMDA exams are optional, but the majority of students enjoy working towards them.
Performance is an important part of the Spotlights experience.
Throughout the year, students take part in a range of opportunities that help build confidence and stage experience.
During the year this typically includes:
• Summer Term: an open class where parents can see what students have been working on
• Autumn Term: an end-of-term showcase for family and friends
• Spring Term: participation in a musical theatre project performed in a theatre space alongside other Spotlights students
These performances allow children to experience the excitement of performing while developing teamwork and stage confidence.
St Mary’s Catholic Primary School offers a variety of after school activities for pupils including sports, creative clubs and performing arts.
Spotlights Theatre School is proud to run the Years 3–6 performing arts class at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, giving children the opportunity to develop their confidence, creativity and performance skills in a supportive environment.
Earlier on Thursdays we also run a Spotlights performing arts class for children in Years 1–2.

This allows children to start their performing arts journey at a younger age and continue developing their skills as they move into the KS2 class.
Children who do not attend St Mary’s Catholic Primary School can still join our weekend performing arts classes, which are open to all children aged 7–18.
These larger academy classes include drama, dance and singing training, as well as opportunities to take part in full musical theatre productions.
